I would specifically cover the Malay spoken in Malaysia. Foreigners would need history to understand how the Malay language evolves to its modern form in Malaysia. However, I will not talk about Old Malay since it could be treated as a different language. Old Malay would be a separate subject since it employs an ancient script based on the Chalukya-Kalinga script. The period when the Malay language employs this script was known as the Hindu-Buddhism period - History of Kepulauan Tengah.
