Shadow Play: Said Orghe Gedebe

Shadow play or wayang kulit is a type of entertainment prominent in east coast of Malayan Peninsula and Southern Thailand. I know that few regions in other countries of Southeast Asia such as Java and Bali of Indonesia also have their own wayang kulit. If you think your wayang is better then do not watch this and your stupid ass comment is out of the question because you are not the people directly involved in the art. As simple as fuck.

Said Orghe Gedebe

The wayang is titled as above, which means, "Said, a gangster". I think there are few scenes missing from this shadow play but nonetheless this would be a good introduction for those who are interested in Malayan cultural traits.

Part 1

Part 2

I am thinking of subbing these type of wayang into Thai language for Southern Thais of Malay descent but it would take time because the dalang (player) speaks in a classical Kelantanese Malay. I will have to match the translation with classical southern Thai dialect. Just to convince some people that there is no need to be in confrontation with Bangkok but to promote the culture to central government. It takes time but continuous effort to persuade everyone would ensure the preservation of the culture because Thailand is not in the period of cultural reformation anymore.

Another thing is, I am not a Kelantanese nor a Patanese. I am from Kedah which is another state neighboring southern Thailand region but in Malayan Peninsula side. Some of the words used in the wayang actually are used in rural regions of our state.
