Human Rights Trend at International Level

Currently, the government of Pakatan Harapan had won the General Election 14 and they had made many promises including those related to human rights such as below:
  • The government would abide and by the principles of truth, human rights, the rule of law, justice, fairness, responsibility and accountability as well as sustainability.
  • The Prime Minister of Malaysia pledged in the UN General Assembly in September 2018 to ratify all remaining core UN instruments related to the protection of human rights.
  • The government announced plans to abolish the death penalty and established a moratorium on executions.
  • The Prime Minister of Malaysia said that the much-abused Sedition Act will be revoked and announced a freeze on its pending repeal.
  • The government would establish an Independent Police Complaint Mechanism to end torture and killings of suspects in police custody, and excessive use of police force when pursuing and apprehending suspects.
  • The government effort to repeal the Anti-Fake News Law passed by the previous Barisan Nasional government was blocked by the appointed Malaysian Senate.
